THE AUTHOR SUMMARISES THE PRINCIPLES OF THE PLANT PRODUCING REFRIGERATION BY FREEZING WATER AROUND PIPES IN WHICH EITHER AMMONIA OR R12 ARE CIRCULATED. HE GIVES THE HEAT BALANCES FOR DRAWING UP THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ICE THICKNESS, PIPE DIAMETER AND FREEZING TIME DURING STORAGE. THE MELTING RATE OF ICE AND PIPE LENGTH AT THE TIME OF REMOVAL ARE STUDIED. A HEAT BALANCE OF THE ICE MELTING PROCESS IS GIVEN. R.R.
