IMPACT OF STRUCTURED PACKING ON DISTILLATION OF ARGON FROM AIR.

Author(s) : AGRAWAL R., WOODWARD D. W.

Summary

THE USE OF LOW PRESSURE DROP STRUCTURED PACKING INSTEAD OF SIEVE TRAYS HAS STRONGLY IMPACTED CRYOGENIC AIR DISTILLATION. BESIDES DECREASING THE POWER CONSUMPTION OF THESE PLANTS, IT HAS REVOLUTIONIZED ARGON PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY. NOT ONLY IS ARGON RECOVERED IN MUCH HIGHER RECOVERIES THAN PREVIOUSLY KNOWN, BUT IT CAN ALSO BE PRODUCED FROM THE ARGON DISTILLATION COLUMN WITH MUCH LOWER CONCENTRATIONS OF OXYGEN. THIS PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO USE NEW TECHNIQUES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PURE ARGON PRODUCT.
