THE AUTHORS DISCUSS DESIGN PROCEDURES AND EMPHASIZE THAT GOOD DESIGNS MAKE EXTRA CONTROLS UNNECESSARY AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FIRSTCOST SAVINGS, SPACE SAVINGS, SUBSTANTIAL OPERATING COST SAVINGS AND LOWER NOISE LEVELS BY MINIMIZING AND EQUALIZING STATIC PRESSURES THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM. THEY COMPARE THE PERFORMANCE OF A TYPICAL SYSTEM USING ROUND DUCTS DESIGNED IN TWO DIFFERENT WAYS NAMELY: < POOR DESIGN > AND < GOOD DESIGN >.
