IMPROVED INSULATION BY LAMINAR AIR FLOW BETWEEN WINDOW PANES.

Author(s) : TJELFLAAT P. O., MOE E.

Summary

THE AUTHORS PROPOSE A SYSTEM FOR REDUCING HEAT LOSSES DUE TO CONDUCTION AND CONVECTION THROUGH DOUBLE-GLAZED WINDOWS. AIR IS ADMITTED BETWEEN THE TWO PANES, THE COLD AIR BEING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COLD PANE. AIR AT ROOM TEMPERATURE IS ADMITTED ALONG THE COOLED INTERNAL PANE. REYNOLDS AND GRASHOF NUMBERS ARE LIMITED BY FLOW WHICH IS CONSIDERED AS STEADY AND LAMINAR. THE NUMERICAL CALCULATIONS FOR THESE FREE OR FORCED CONVECTION PROBLEMS SHOW A REDUCED HEAT LOSS COMPARED AS TO CONVENTIONAL DOUBLE-GLAZED WINDOWS.
