Improved plant design and cost reduction through engineering development.

Summary

The constant drive to improve plant safety and efficiency while reducing capital cost has been helped in recent years by the addition of new engineering development tools. Among these tools are: pinch technology, shipping simulations, depressurization programs, dynamic simulation programs, reliability analysis programs and equipment failure rate databases, three dimensional graphic systems, vapour dispersion models, computational fluid dynamics. The paper develops these topics in more detail with examples of their applications.
