Summary
The major issues encountered in air-filter technology are improvements and innovations at the level of filters, and environmental management. Filters for gaseous materials (airborne molecular contaminants) and microbiological contamination are now development targets. This article highlights the difference, in terms of contaminants and their concentrations, between ordinary buildings and modern clean rooms. In the latter, sophisticated integration of various types of contaminants is required. Under development now: cleaning and reuse of used filters.
