Improvement of conventional indirect cooling-coils for display cabinets: theory and experiments.

Author(s) : HAGLUND M. C., FAHLÉN P., SUNDÉN B., et al.

Summary

Experiments have been carried out with full-scale indirect conventional cooling coils designed for use in display cabinets. Three different one-phase secondary refrigerants have been studied. Appropriate correlations and assumptions have been used to create a calculation model. This model was used in a parameter study in which the effect of changing the cooling-coil geometry was investigated. It was found that the overall efficiency of a cooling coil could be improved by reducing the length between the U-bends of the coil. Each U-bend destroys the secondary layer and increases the heat transfer. However, pressure drops also have to be considered in the optimization.
