Control and optimization of food retail refrigeration systems.

Summary

Modern supermarket refrigeration systems consist of multi-compressor refrigeration packs in which the compressors are arranged in parallel and cycle on and off to satisfy the load. The paper considers the control of such systems and reports on the results of experimental investigations with influence of on/off control parameters on the efficiency and stability. To facilitate the investigation of alternative control strategies, a model of multi-compressor refrigeration systems has been developed based on the TRNSYS simulation environment. The usefulness of the model is illustrated by comparing the performance of an on/off controlled system with that of a system employing variable speed control on one of the compressors.
