Summary
This work analyzes the influence that the functioning of a plate type heat exchanger has on the performance of a single effect H2O-LiBr adiabatic absorption test facility, when working as the solution heat exchanger. The solution heat exchanger efficiency, is one of the factors that affect greatly the resulting COP of the facility. For the case studied here, this efficiency is related with the correct functioning of the heat exchanger. As a result of the design of the experimental test facility, the functioning of the strong solution circuit leads to take into account some particular operating conditions in the solution heat exchanger. For some experimental conditions, the strong solution side is not completely filled by the solution fluid. As a consequence of this, the heat transfer process is affected, reducing the solution heat exchanger efficiency. In order to illustrate this phenomenon, the paper offers results including: solution working temperatures, solution heat exchanger efficiency and COP in a time sequence of an experiment, and for fixed operating conditions. They show the influence of a correct functioning on the solution heat exchanger efficiency and therefore on the performance of the system. The results are of interest for researchers interested in new absorption cycle designs.
