New absorbent composition for absorption refrigeration machines.

Summary

Mixtures of lithium bromide and organic salts of sodium and potassium (formate, acetate and lactate) were evaluated as alternative absorbents for absorption refrigeration machines. The main objective was to overpass the limitations of lithium bromide and improve the characteristics and the efficiency of the refrigeration cycle. In order to select the mixture with the best properties for absorption refrigeration cycles, two types of analyses were carried out: a thermodynamic analysis and a chemical study on the absorption capacity of new working fluids. The density, viscosity, enthalpies of dilution, solubility and liquid-vapour equilibrium data of the proposed mixtures were measured. A simulation programme was developed to evaluate temperatures, heats exchanged in the different sections and the efficiency of the cycle.
