Influence of storage temperature on the developmental features and yield of minitubers of various sizes.

Summary

Minitubers of potatoes cv. Kalina and Bogna with diameters of 3.5-4.0, 2.5-3.0, 1.5-2.0 and 0.5-1.0 cm were stored at 2, 6, 10 or 14 deg C and 90% relative humidity before planting in late April in 1992-94. Dormancy ended in December in tubers stored at 14 deg C and was progressively prolonged as storage temperature decreased. Storage at 2 deg C prolonged dormancy by 90-111 days in cv. Bogna and 62-82 days in Kalina. In early April sprout length ranged from 107-202 mm at 14 deg C to 3 mm or less at 2 deg C. Action of storage temperature on time and duration of emergence is studied, as well as on tuber yields.
