INTERIOR INSULATORS: PROBLEM SOLVERS AT THE WINDOW.

Summary

A STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO TEST MULTILAYER WINDOW TREATMENTS FOR THERMAL RESISTANCE AND TO ASSESS THE EFFECTS OF IN-STALLING AN INTERIOR INSULATING WINDOW ON THE OVERALL RVALUE WITH AN RVALUE OF 1.6 FOR THE BARE GLASS. THE INTERIOR INSULATOR WAS INSTALLED IN TWO POSITIONS: 4.13 AND 12.38 CM FROM THE WINDOW GLASS. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE ADDITION OF AN INTERIOR INSULATING WINDOW AFFECTED SIGNIFICANTLY THE RVALUE OF THE MAJORITY OF THE VARIOUS WINDOW TREATMENTS TESTED. WINDOW TREATMENTS WITHLOWER INITIAL RVALUES WERE IMPROVED TO A GREATER EXTENT THAN TREATMENTS THAT HAD INITIAL HIGHER RVALUES. CONDENSATION WAS REDUCED GREATLY WHEN THE INTERIOR INSULATOR WAS INSTALLED.
