Summary

This article describes existing ISO standards and current activities concerned with thermal comfort. It describes how an ISO standard is produced. EN ISO 7730 is discussed in some detail: 'Moderate thermal environments - determination of the PMV and PPD indices and specifications of the conditions for thermal comfort', and is discussed in terms of its validity, reliability, usability and scope for practical application. ISO 8996 (metabolic rate) and ISO 9920 (clothing) are also presented. The proposed revision to EN ISO 7730 is discussed in detail.
