Investigation of check valve behaviour in a scroll compressor for noise.

Summary

In scroll compressors equipped with check valves which prevent the reverse rotation of scroll, these check valves make a noise, the so-called shut-down noise in the case of power being turned off. But check valves emit two types of noise. It is necessary to analyze the pattern of the flow due to the geometry and valve movement in order to reduce noise during operation. The paper attempts to solve above all two problems using computational fluid dynamics and visualization.
