INVESTIGATION OF THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF SOME INSULATION MATERIALS AT 4.2 K.

Summary

THIS STUDY PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH INTO SOME INSULATION MATERIALS AT LIQUID HELIUM TEMPERATURES. ACCORDING TO OPERATING CONDITIONS AND THE EXIGENCES OF FUNCTIONAL PERFORMANCE AS WELL AS THE REVIEW OF PUBLICATIONS, THE FOLLOWING MAIN MATERIALS HAVE BEEN SELECTED: A POLYESTER FILM AS AN INSULANT AND A COMPOSITE OF GLASS-FIBRE EPOXY AS BOTH A CONSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL AND AN INSULANT. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED ON THE MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL AND THERMAL PROPERTIES SUITABLE FOR THE APPLICATION OF THESE MATERIALS TO CRYOGENIC DEVICES (SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS, MOTOR, GENERATORS, ETC). THE RESULTS ENABLE ONE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE TESTED MATERIALS ARE SUITABLE FOR APPLICATIONS AT LOW TEMPERATURE.
