Investigation on fluid flow maldistribution in plate-fin heat exchangers.

Summary

Fluid flow maldistribution in plate-fin heat exchangers (PFHE) may be caused by many factors. Among them, the effects of distributor and header configuration on flow maldistribution are very serious. In the paper, the experimental investigation of the effect of different header configurations on the fluid flow maldistribution in the PFHE is described. The results indicate that the fluid flow velocity distribution in PFHE at the header configuration C is the most uniform among three-type header configurations. The correlation of the flow maldistribution factor and Reynolds number is obtained for different header configurations. The ratio of the maximum velocity and the minimum velocity in the channels of PFHE are decreased by optimum design of the header configuration.
