Summary
The CEN standard drafts on airborne and impact sound transmission between adjacent rooms in dwellings have been investigated with respect to their applicability. Error calculations show a precision of 2 to 3 decibels for the weighted sound reduction index and the normalized impact sound pressure level. Comparing calculations according to CEN and according to DIN 4109 with in-situ-measurements, the CEN method leads to a better agreement for airborne sound reduction. The impact sound transmission could not be calculated, because reliable input data have not been available.
