Summary

DESCRIPTION OF TWO FIRE TESTS ON TWO LPG STORAGE TANKS OF 4,850 L. MEASUREMENT OF INTERNAL OVERPRESSURE, TANK, GAS AND LIQUID TEMPERATURES DURING THE TESTS. IN THE FIRST TEST, THE TANK WAS HALF FULL OF LIQUID PROPANE. THE FIRE TEST WAS STOPPED AFTER 70 MIN DUE TO GAS LEAKAGES AND THE EXCESS TEMPERATURE AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. IN THE SECOND TEST, THE TANK WAS ONLY 1/5TH FULL, THE THICKNESS OF THE INSULATING WALL WAS INCREASED BY 80 TO 100 MM AND THE GASTIGHT INSULATION MATERIALS WERE MORE RESISTANT TO FIRE. THE TEST TOOK 90 MIN WITHOUT ANY DANGER OF INTERNAL PRESSURE BUILD UP. THE TEMPERATURE REMAINED LOWER THAN 250 DEG C.
