Summary

ISOCAM is an infrared camera operating from 2.4 to 3.4 K for the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) satellite scheduled for launch in 1993. ISO will collect data on near-infrared wavelength astronomy (2-200 micrometers). The paper reports the results of the main cryogenic system tests and the associated measurements. The degree of validation of the analytical model versus test results is described. Predictions of thermal conduction through mounting screws, from ball bearings and of heat distribution in the rotor and stator of a cryogenic motor correlate well with test results. The model also predicted other phenomena in the motor operation.
