Summary

The results of European Joule II research programme show that air quality inside buildings, which is considered too low despite proper ventilation rates, is compatible with a policy of energy economy. Construction and maintenance products are the main sources of pollution. Enhancement of air quality in office buildings will be achieved by reducing these sources, rather than increasing ventilation rates.
