Summary

Seven cubic equations of state are used to predict the Joule-Thomson inversion curve of simple fluids. By comparing the results with an empirical generalized correlation, it is shown that the predicted peak inversion pressure directly depends on the displacement of the equation of state critical compressibility factor from the real fluid value. Prediction methods are compared and a procedure is developed to compute supercritical cohesion parameters. It is shown that the cohesion parameter may, depending on the equation of state, take negative values at high reduced temperatures.
