Summary
States that the construction industry accounts for close on 50% of total energy consumption when energy for building operation is added to energy consumed in the production of building components and the construction, demolition and removal of buildings. To date energy consumption for space heating, hot water, cooling and electricity supply has dominated, but the plans for low energy buildings mean that in the future energy consumed in the manufacture of building components will be an increasingly important share of the whole. It is therefore necessary to make the estimation of the energy consumption of buildings more comprehensive than has been the case so far.
