Liquid hydrogen trailers: state of the art, latest developments and related performance.
Number: 0304
Author(s) : BERNARD J-P.
Summary
This paper presents a review of liquid hydrogen (LH2) trailers, with a focus on latest developments to meet the growing demand of the new hydrogen (H2) markets related to mobility such as ground transportation, maritime transport and aeronautic industry. Indeed within H2 supply chain, liquid logistics is of interest for stakeholders due to LH2 high density compared to compressed gaseous H2. Therefore LH2 trailers are required with high performance i.e. low boil-off. A review of main stakeholders is performed with main design features, then latest developments are presented. Finally, the results of new designs validated by LH2 tests are presented for Normal Evaporation Rate (NER) and Holding Time (HT).
