Summary

THE AUTHORS HAVE EXPERIMENTALLY INVESTIGATED THE POSSIBILITY OF SAVING ENERGY IN THE COMPRESSION OF R717 BY INJECTING LIQUID REFRIGERANT INTO A SCREW COMPRESSOR. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS HAVE NOT REVEALED ANY ENERGY SAVING, BUT ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS ONLY SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN A CONVENTIONAL REFRIGERATION SYSTEM AND THE OIL COOLING LOAD IS MUCH LOWER. IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT THE BEST RESULTS ARE OBTAINED WITH DELAYED INJECTION AND LOW COMPRESSOR SPEED WHICH IMPROVES HEAT TRANSFER AND PRODUCES FLASH GAS DURING INJECTION. E. F.
