Summary

LOW TEMPERATURE (V-T) CHARACTERISTICS OF EIGHT SAMPLES OF LIGHT EMITTING DIODES HAVING DIFFERENT PEAK SPECTRAL RESPONSES HAVE BEEN MEASURED BETWEEN 77 AND 300 K. EFFECT OF HUMIDITY AND OF CONTINUOUS DIPPING IN LIQUID NITROGEN HAVE ALSO BEEN STUDIED. SOME OF THESE LIGHT EMITTING DIODES ARE FOUND TO HAVE GOOD SENSITIVITY AND GOOD REPRODUCIBILITY AGAINST THERMAL CYCLING AND ARE SUITABLE FOR APPLICATIONS IN CRYOGENIC INSTRUMENTATION.
