Type of article: Article
Summary
Compression/expansion based refrigeration is confronted with compelling environmental factors, without real alternative, while magnetic cooling con provide credible solutions for the replacement of compressors. Following a review of the magnetocaloric effect and the description of the thermodynamic cycles used, the article focalizes on a practical application of this technology through the description of the internal components of a rotary refrigeration machine taking into account constraints of cost and industrialization. The article finishes with the evolution potential towards higher powers and concludes with the advantages of the magnetic cooling technology with a perspective of the targeted markets.
