Magnetocaloric versus thermoelectric effect: new systems for thermal applications.

Summary

The principles of the magnetocaloric and thermoelectric effect are described. The key-numbers such as magnetic change of entropy and temperature increase at an adiabatic change of magnetization with temperature for the magnetocaloric effect as well as the figure of merit for the thermoelectric effect are defined. The up to now available materials and its limitations are surveyed. Possible applications and its efficiency compared with standard solutions are given.
