Summary

MATHEMATICAL MODELS ARE INDISPENSABLE TOOLS FOR RESEARCH AND DESIGN. THEY ARE ALREADY USED IN DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGICAL FIELDS, SUCH AS ELECTRO AND CONTROL TECHNIQUES AND IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING ARE LAGGING BEHIND, BUT IT SEEMS THAT DEVELOPMENT IS SPEEDING UP AND THAT THIS TECHNOLOGY WILL CATCH UP IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE AUTHOR GIVES A SHORT HISTORICAL REVIEW AND A NUMBER OF EXAMPLES OF APPLICATION OF DIFFERENT MODEL TYPES.
