Measurement of the thermal efficiency of a 1/5 scale mode of an insulated reefer container fitted with three different types of Aerogel insulation and expanded foam insulation.

Author(s) : LAWTON R., MYNOTT T., RHODES C., CLARKE P.

Summary

A scale model of a container was constructed and heat leakage tests in line with ISO 1496‐2 were carried out with different types and thicknesses of Aerogel insulation and foam insulation. One particular type of Aerogel was found to give the best results and if scaled up could easily be a more efficient insulator than existing polyurethane insulation. Test results and predicted values for a full‐scale ISO container are given.
