Summary

IN THIS METHOD, THE PHENOMENON OF NUCLEATE BOILING IS USED ON FINS WHICH ARE SOLDERED OR CRIMPED ONTO THE TUBES. IDENTIFYING THERMAL CONTACT RESISTANCE ON A FINNED LENGTH IS ACHIEVED BY COMPARING THE MEASURED VALUE OF OVERALL FIN-TUBE RESISTANCE WITH THAT GIVEN BY A THEORETICAL MODEL. THE TEST DEVICE USES WATER AND R11 IN, RESPECTIVELY, THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE FINNED TUBES. THE LOCAL MEASUREMENT OF THE OVERALL FIN-TUBE RESISTANCE IS DEDUCED FROM THE MEASUREMENT OF THE MASS FLOW RATE OF R11 VAPOUR GENERATED AND FROM THE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 FLUIDS. THE METHOD TURNS OUT TO BE VERY SENSITIVE.
