Summary
Changes in modern health care operating costs are forcing many US hospital to reevaluate their facilities from both a patient-comfort and an operational standpoint. At the same time, many have ageing mechanical/electrical equipment and limited capacity for expansion or advancement. The article describes the redevelopment of Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital as an example of efforts to improve health care and address these challenges.
