Summary

THE RATE OF ENTROPY PRODUCTION CAN BE COMPUTED FROM EXPERIMENTAL DATA FOR CYCLIC TRANSFORMATIONS. THE RATE OF ENTROPY PRODUCTION DUE TO INTERNAL TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS IS EVALUATED FOR HEAT STORAGE AND HEAT TRANSFER THROUGH A WALL SUDDENLY HEATED TO A GIVEN CONSTANT TEMPERATURE ON ONE SIDE. INSTANTANEOUS VALUES OF ENTROPY BALANCE WERE SIMULATED DURING TRANSIENT EVOLUTION. FOR CYCLIC TRANSFORMATIONS OF DURATIONS LARGE RESPECTIVELY TO THREE TIMES CONSTANT OF THE WALL, THE RATE OF ENTROPY PRODUCTION EQUALS THE INTERNAL DISSIPATION DUE TO THE STEADY FLOW PASSING THROUGH THE WALL. BY EQUATING THE INTERNAL DISSIPATION FUNCTION VALUE TO THE ENTROPY EXCHANGE WITH THE SURROUNDINGS, IT IS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE AN EFFECTIVE THERMAL RESISTANCE FOR THE REALIZED CYCLIC TRANSFORMATION.
