Summary

This article is the Spanish translation of an article presented at the 22nd IIR international Congress in Beijing, China (see the Bulletin of the IIR, reference 2008-0226). It presents the heat transfer characteristics of microencapsulated phase change material (MPCM) slurry flow in an electric heated circular tube. An experimental test rig was built to obtain reliable and sufficient data of heat transfer behaviours of MPCM slurry. Phase change due to the melting has been investigated for water-based slurries using microencapsulated 1-bromohexadecane in the mass concentrations varying from 0 to 27.6%. The average Nusselt numbers were calculated based on the local heat transfer data and found to be significantly higher than those for single-phase fluid flow. Two new correlation equations based on the series of experiments covered in both laminar and turbulent flow conditions were proposed for predicting the heat transfer behaviours of MPCM slurry in a circular tube.
