New developments in hybrid natural gas/electric cooling.
Author(s) : NOWAKOWSKI G. A., GRAMLICH M.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Hybrid systems consist of a combination of electric motor-driven chillers and thermally activated (engine-driven or absorption) chillers. Hybrid chiller systems provide greater flexibility, allowing the building owner to control operating costs by selecting from multiple energy sources (natural gas, electricity and/or steam). As energy markets are deregulated, supply and demand will have a stronger effect on price. This will likely increase the economic advantages of hybrid chiller systems.
