Summary

A METHOD FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF APPROXIMATE FORMULAE BASED ON THE USE OF THE WELL-KNOWN TWO-SIDED ASYMPTOTIC EXPRESSIONS OF THE SOLUTION TO THE CORRESPONDING PROBLEM (THE METHOD OF ASYMPTOTIC INTERPOLATION) IS SUGGESTED AS WELL AS THE TECHNIQUE FOR A SUBSTANTIAL EXTENSION OF THE VALIDITY RANGE OF ONE-SIDED ASYMPTOTICFORMULAE BASED ON THE PROCEDURE OF SMALL OR LARGE PARAMETER < ELIMINATION > (THE METHOD OF ASYMPTOTIC EXTRAPOLATION). THE MATERIAL IS PRESENTED ON AN EXAMPLE OF CONVECTIVE MASS AND HEAT TRANSFER AND HYDRODYNAMICS PROBLEMS. A COMPARISON OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH A VARIETY OF SPECIFIC CASES, FOR WHICH EXACT AND APPROXIMATE FORMULAE ARE AVAILABLE SHOWS GOOD ACCURACY AND WIDE POSSIBILITIES OF THE METHODS SUGGESTED.
