Summary

A possibility of the new-type Peltier refrigerator using a high-critical temperature superconductor as a passive thermo-element was investigated near the liquid nitrogen temperature. The authors tried to use the high-critical temperature superconductor instead of the p-type material. With the Peltier refrigerator composed of the n-type bismuth-antimony semiconductor and the bismuth-2223 high-critical temperature superconductor, a cooling was demonstrated and a maximum temperature difference of 6.6 K was obtained when the temperature of the hot junction was 78 K. An improvement in the performance of the Peltier refrigerator was also achieved by reducing the cross section of the superconductor.
