Summary

This is the second part of the cycle of the papers dealing with noise and vibrations in air-conditioning and ventilation systems as the most important sources in apartment building and public buildings, e.g. hospitals. The basic physical concepts of noise and vibrations have been presented in the first part of the paper (see the Bulletin of the IIR, reference 2008-1333). The basic quantities describing these phenomena have been described: sounds, ultrasounds, infrasounds. The following quantities have been described: threshold of audibility, acoustic pressure, sound intensity, sound power, loudness, scales of loudness, and indices of noise assessment. This part of the paper deals with noise measurement as well as discussion on following important quantities: air and material sounds, sound absorption, time of reverberation, and propagation of sounds in the atmosphere.
