THE AUTHOR ILLUSTRATES THE PRINCIPLES AND BASIC NOTIONS CONCERNING VAV AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS, WITH REFERENCE TO TRADITIONAL APPLICATIONS IN OFFICE BUILDINGS. HE ANALYZES THE TRADITIONAL VAV AND DUAL-DUCT SYSTEMS, WITH TERMINAL MIXING UNITS AND DUAL-DUCT SYSTEMS AND HE IDENTIFIES THEIR ADVANTAGES AND DRAWBACKS. HE DESCRIBES A FAIRLY INNOVATIVE KIND OF DUAL-DUCT PLANT, EQUIPPED WITH TERMINAL UNITS WITH MUCH REDUCED MIXING, IE WITH A VARIABLE VOLUME BOTH DURING THE COOLING PHASE AND THE HEATING ONE.
