Summary

The reasons for the small amount of air-conditioning equipment in France are analyzed, along with the development of this market. Japan and United States account for 71% of the global market, and France, 1.8%. The geographical breakdown of French equipment, which is mainly composed of water-cooled systems, and its latest developments are described. Health problems resulting from air conditioning are dealt with: they should be studied and solved during design and maintenance. Temperature and hygrometry conditions for air conditioning in the service sector must be treated globally. Design is done first for an entire building, before being broken down into units in order to meet specific needs. Architecture and air conditioning must be coordinated to reduce equipment capacity and obtain better cost-effectiveness.
