Summary

The paper presents a study on a new compressor for household appliances, developed through a virtual simulation system. The linear compressor has a linear motor coupled to a mechanical system: a piston and a spring. The advantage of this compressor lies in the marked reduction in energy losses and variable capacity achieved. From the numerically optimized model, a running prototype compressor has been produced; the high performances predicted by the virtual model were achieved.
