Numerical and experimental analysis of the flow characteristics through a channel valve.

Summary

An experimental and numerical study of compressor channel valves was performed for low pressure air flows at a Reynolds number based on the inlet slot width. The objective was to investigate the variation of the effective valve flow and force areas with lift. The results showed that the variation in the effective flow area with valve lift is approximately linear. The numerical model was then used to determine the valve flow and force areas at operating conditions prevailing in the suction and discharge of a high pressure natural gas reciprocating compressor.
