Summary

For a reciprocating compressor used in household refrigerators, a direct analogy was made between the pipe flow network and the electric circuit network to set up a mathematical model for an oil supply system. The individual lubrication elements of the oil supply system, such as the propeller-installed oil cap, oil galleries, radial oil-feeding holes, spiral oil grooves, and various sliding surfaces, have been likened to equivalent electric elements, which have been combined together to form an electric circuit network corresponding to the whole system. By solving the closed network equations for the model, oil flow rates at various lubrication elements could be obtained. The total flow rate at which oil was drawn into the shaft was measured and compared favorably to the prediction of the numerical simulation.
