Summary

States several air filters from different HVAC systems were examined for their content of bacteria and moulds. The filters differed in respect of filter media, filter class, filter stage and service life. Finds that on prefilters (Eurovent EU 4 to EU 6) with different service lives, the mean concentration of bacteria is about 910 colony-forming units, and of moulds about 2,280 colony-forming units. The ratio of microorganisms between the examined prefilter and the main filter is about 24/1. The concentration of microorganisms across the filter is not uniform, with differences in concentration up to more than a factor of 10.
