Summary

THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY WAS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF AN INSULATING WINDOW SHADE IN ACTUAL USE. DATA WERE COMPARED WITH PREDICTED LABORATORY RESULTS. 4 ROOMS IN A COMMERCIAL INN WERE USED TO TEST THE INSULATING EFFECTIVENESS OF A WINDOW SHADE. TWO ROOMS WERE USED AS A CONTROL AND TWO ROOMS WERE USED AS EXPERIMENTAL. COMPARISON OF MEASURED RESULTS (HEAT LOSS THROUGH THE EXTERNAL WALLS AND WINDOWS) WERE MADE WITH CALCULATED RESULTS. PROJECTED DOLLAR SAVINGS PER WINDOW PER HEATING SEASON WERE COMPUTED.
