Operational experience with the new superconducting luminosity upgrade magnets at HERA.

Author(s) : BRÜCK H., CLAUSEN M., GADWINKEL E., et al.

Summary

First experience with the cryogenic operation of the new superconducting luminosity upgrade magnets which are installed very near to the interaction points within the existing detectors H1 and ZEUS at the HERA electron and proton accelerator rings at DESY in Hamburg, Germany, is reported. The cooling system and different cooling modes are described and results of cryogenic measurements are given. The performance of a helium circulation pump and a special handling and control of the vapour-cooled current leads are described.
