Summary

Demand for natural gas is driving efforts to import liquefied natural gas (LNG). A key cost factor for the terminal operations is regasifying LNG. Traditional vaporization methods use submerged combustion and open-rack vaporization techniques. Both methods are proven but also carry high operating costs and environmental-emissions burdens. New regasification methods incorporate waste-heat recovery with ambient air vaporization. These methods can be applied to onshore and offshore facilities.
