PRESENTS A TECHNICAL-ECONOMIC MODEL FOR EVALUATING THE OPTIMUM DISTRIBUTION OF INSULATION OVER VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF AN AIR-CONDITIONED BUILDING FOR A GIVEN INVESTMENT CORRESPONDING TO THE MAXIMUM NET SAVINGS. THE MODEL ISBASED ON A TIME-DEPENDENT ANALYSIS FOR PREDICTING THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE BUILDING. CARRIES OUT NUMERICAL CALCULATIONS CORRESPONDING TO 4 DIFFERENT CLIMATES REPRESENTED BY 4 INDIAN CITIES. STATES THE CALCULATIONS SHOW THAT IN GENERAL INSULATION OVER THE ROOF PROVIDES MOST SAVINGS, THAT ON THE SOUTH WALL THE LEAST.
