Summary
The intervention area is located in Largo della Salara Vecchia, near Via in Miranda and the church of S. Lorenzo in Miranda, in Rome, within the Roman Forum, one of the most important and interesting historical and archaeological areas downtown. The intervention concerns the architectural, functional and energetic requalification of the ticket office at the entrance of the Roman Forum, a hinge building between the archaeological context and the historic city. The intervention enhances the relationship among building, open spaces, paths, introducing innovative elements, according to the historical, cultural and archaeological context. The renovation of the building envelope and the technological systems design are based on the rational use of resources, the adoption of renewable energy, the water and energy consumption optimization, the energy and emission wastage reduction, with an improvement of the energy building class. The technical solutions and the building material adopted allows a complete integration
with the existing facilities and the archaeological area. Specifically, the intervention consists in requalification, renovation and extension of the ticket office, the bookshop, the waiting areas for visitors and the new restrooms, in conformity with the new functional requirements, in connection with the historical context surrounding. Figure 1 represents the design sketch of the tickets office, the access to the archaeological area of the Roman Forum.
