Author(s) : ROWE D. M., LAMBERT S. G., et al.

Summary

The article first reviews perceptions of thermal comfort in ten Australian office buildings. It describes some experiences with a suite of offices vented by windows and doors while provide with equipment that permits user-controlled on-demand cooling and heating. Interprets observations of the use of available thermal control options in this building to suggest reasons for high levels of dissatisfaction as recorded from the eight air-conditioned office buildings described in the first part. Suggests that enabling the individual to vary conditions to suit personal preference will greatly improve acceptance of the thermal environment of a space.
