Summary

THE PERFORMANCE OF A THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE MODULE WAS SIMULATED NUMERICALLY. THE CHANGE OF PHASE OF THE PHASE-CHANGE MATERIAL (PCM) AND THE TRANSIENT FORCED CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER FOR THE TRANSFER FLUID WITH LOW PRANDTL NUMBERS WERE SOLVED SIMULTANEOUSLY AS A CONJUGATE PROBLEM. A PARAMETRIC STUDY AND A SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION WERE CONDUCTED. THE NUMERICAL RESULTS SHOW THAT MODULE GEOMETRY IS CRUCIAL TO THE DESIGN OF A SPACE-BASED THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM.
